Gurpreet Singh’s Golden Moment at the 2025 Asian Championship

Indian shooter Gurpreet Singh achieved a remarkable double triumph at the Asian Shooting Championship 2025 in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Thursday, clinching gold medals in both the individual and team events of the men’s 25m standard pistol.

The 37-year-old scored 572 with 18 inner tens to edge out compatriot Amanpreet Singh, who scored the same but had 11 inner tens, securing silver. China’s Su Lianbofan took bronze with 570 (15x).

India’s dominance continued in the team event, where Gurpreet Singh, Amanpreet Singh, and Harsh Gupta amassed 1709 points to claim gold. South Korea earned silver with 1704 points, while Vietnam secured bronze with 1677.

In the men’s 50m rifle prone team event, India narrowly missed the podium, with Parikshit Singh Brar, Samarvir Singh, and Goldi Gurjar finishing fourth at 1839.6, just behind Kazakhstan’s 1841.2. South Korea led with 1854.5, followed by China with 1852.9. Individually, Brar was India’s top performer, placing seventh with 617.1.

India’s senior team has now won 26 medals at the championship—11 gold, seven silver, and eight bronze. Manu Bhaker contributed three bronze medals, including one in the women’s 10m air pistol individual event.

The Indian senior squad, comprising 35 members, is competing in 15 events, while 129 Indian shooters are participating in junior events at the Shymkent meet.
